How to care for travertine and natural lamps.
Simple cleaning steps for travertine shades, wood details, woven shades and the electrical parts of your Teileter light, plus what to avoid.
Each product page has a care note for that model. Start there, then use this guide for the details.
Travertine: keep it dry and gentle.
Travertine is a porous natural stone, so water and acids can mark it.
- Switch off and let the light cool before you touch the shade.
- Dust with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. A soft brush helps lift dust out of the pores.
- For a mark, use a cloth that is barely damp with plain water, then dry the stone straight away.
- Avoid vinegar, lemon, bleach, limescale or bathroom cleaners, and anything acidic or abrasive.
- Never soak the stone or spray cleaner directly onto it.
Wood details.
Wipe the wood top with a soft, dry cloth, and keep water and polish away from the stone below it.
Woven shades: lift dust without pulling.
Use a soft brush or the low-suction setting on a vacuum and work with the direction of the weave. Keep the shade dry, and hold it by the frame rather than the weave when you move it.
Ceramic, faux silk and resin.
Wipe ceramic bases and resin wall lights with a soft, dry cloth. Dust a faux-silk shade with a lint roller or a soft brush; don't wash it.
Electrical parts: switch off first.
Always switch off at the wall and let the bulb cool before cleaning. Don't spray anything near the lamp holder, cable or switch. If you notice damage to a cable or fitting, stop using the light and have it checked by a qualified electrician. In Australia, work on fixed wiring must be done by a licensed electrician.
